2007 Hillview Recycling Guide
Many recycling laws have changed or come into effect this year. Catherine McMillan in coordination with the Hillview staff and the Hillview PTO has put together the fully updated and revised Hillview Recycling Guide. The document has also been reviewed by the staff of Menlo Park's Environmental Affairs Department.
When you recycle, take a few moments to explain to your children what you are doing. Our school is now providing some services. Recycling technology changes constantly: please let us know if any of the information needs updating.
Hillview offers three different Hot Food programs:
  1. Kid’s Cuisine provides a Monday and Friday “Pre-paid Catered Food” program
  2. Kid’s Cuisine also provides a Thursday “All-Cash Food” program
  3. Brown bag lunches from Lutticken’s Deli (Menlo Park) are available all days except Thursdays; check the Lutticken's current order form for more information.
Forms are due December 21 to the Hillview school office or January 5th by mail to Lutticken’s.
The main Hot Food schedule is available in the Monthly Calendar

 Pre-Paid Catered Food
Catered Food” is provided to students on Monday and Friday. The primary goal of this program is to offer families a break from making lunches. A variety of local restaurants provide a rotation of lunch choices.

Orders: Lunches are pre-ordered and pre-paid 3 times a year. Each session will coincide with the Hillview Trimester schedule.

Online Ordering: For the school-year 2007-2008, orders will be submitted online. Payment will be by online credit card or by check. To submit your order online, follow these steps:

SESSION ORDER DATES SESSION START DATE

General Policy:

Changes: Once your order has been placed, there will be NO CHANGES ALLOWED for any reason!  Kid's Cuisine commits to its vendors at the start of each trimester session.

Missed Days: Refunds will not be given for any reason. If a student misses school and lunch, parents can send a note asking that the missed lunch be given to a sibling. No exceptions.

Be on Time: Please pick up your lunches by 12:15 P.M. The kitchen closes before the end of lunch.

Name on Order:
Volunteers distribute lunches from a list. It is important that orders have a child’s common first name – the name they are called at school. Nick names are accepted, as long as it is an established one. Enter this established name plus last name and core class in your online profile.

Food Details: The order sheet does not go into detail about each item. Items range in size. Some items are side dishes, and some items have side dishes included. Each day has at least one vegetarian option. We will list peanuts if they are used. If you have specific concerns or questions about an item and you need more detailed information, please contact Becky Galvez.

Keep Track of Your Order: Please print your Hot Food Selection so you and your child know which days you have ordered food. Everybody feels bad when someone waits in line, only to find out they do not have a lunch that day.

Volunteers: This is a fun, easy way to help out. Volunteers work on a team to serve each grade. The commitment is about once a month from 11:30 A.M. - 12:15 P.M. It’s a great way to see the kids you know and get to know those you don’t!

Scholarships: Donations for scholarships are welcomed. Please contact Becky Galvez for details.

 The Thursday Hot Food Program
Thursday’s “All-Cash” Hot Food program is unique to Hillview and was designed to provide students with the opportunity to learn various life lessons like handling, budgeting, and counting money; making purchase decisions without direct adult input or supervision, prioritizing choices and options; and taking responsibility for themselves. Students do not pre-order their selections, and all purchases are made on the spot with cash. Entrees (complete with a side dish of fruit) cost about $3-$4 while “extras” like string cheese, beef jerky, chips, yoghurt, drinks, etc. have an additional cost. Prices are subject to change.

Volunteers: This program is dependent upon its volunteers. It is a great way to meet and work with other parents and to get a feel for the school at lunch-time. The commitment is only one Thursday a month, from 10:30 A.M. - 12:45 P.M. If you are interested in joining a team, please contact Ann Waltzer.
