All Halloween costume rules hold for all students, unless Mr. Moore or Ms. Shmueli make an exception. Students wishing an exception should see Mr. Moore or Ms. Shmueli before Halloween. Students who have not obtained exceptions, and who come to school with costumes that might violate these rules, should come with a change of clothing.

General Hillview dress codes still apply, and that includes no spaghetti straps, no skimpy clothing, and no short skirts.
No cross dressing (boys as women, girls as men)
No weapons (guns, scythes, swords, bows and arrows, etc.)
No excessive gore (blood and guts)
No costumes that make fun of people less fortunate (the homeless, battered women, migrant workers, etc.)
No pimps, prostitutes, or drug dealers
Again, Mr. Moore or Ms. Shmueli must be consulted if you’d like an exception.

Learn how Hillview prepares for an emergency and plans the drill which is scheduled for the near future. The time commitment is short-term, and you will learn what it takes to plan for the safety of the 700 students and staff at Hillview School. To sign up to help, please contact Barbro Moran at jagedal@aol.com or Mary Rudolph at mmrudolph@comcast.net.

Last week in Character Ed, the discussion of Relational Aggression and the shifting tides of adolescent friendships continued. Read this Character Ed lesson, and take time to talk to your children about any experiences you might have had ending a friendship or breaking up with a boyfriend or girlfriend.

In her book, Queen Bees and Wannabes, Rosalind Wiseman says that "the best-friend relationships girls have in early adolescence can be the most intense relationsips girls will ever have....." and then in the next paragraph, "It's almost certain that they'll break up around seventh grade (if not before) when at least one will want to expand her social horizons."

This book is an excellent resource for parents trying to help their daughters navigate a slippery social slope! (Boys, too, have told me that this issue is one with which that they've grappled, as well.)

mpaef donation day
By now you should have received an envelope in the mail from the MPAEF – please open it! With MPAEF Donation Day just over one week away, the Foundation needs you to complete the remit envelope and drop your donation at any of the curbside boxes located at all four schools. Help us reach the $2 million goal, which grants $900 per student in our District. Donation Day is an opportunity for the entire community to get out and give at any level. Giving on-line at www.mpaef.org/donations counts too. Additional envelopes may be found in the MPAEF office or school offices.

Remember – November 7th is Donation Day! Our 2200+ students count on the MPAEF and the MPAEF counts on you!

PE uniforms should be laundered each week.
If you had back-ordered uniforms, have your child ask Ms. Becky Galvez for the items.
