    Special Board of Education Meeting: 7:00 p.m. in the District Office, 181 Encinal Avenue. Attend this public hearing to ascertain perspectives of parents, staff, and members of the community on configuration options for the District's elementary schools.

    Gift Wrap Sales Contest ends at midnight.

    Make-up Picture Day.

Stock up on holiday, birthday and special occasion gift wrap and other great products at sallyfoster.com! The Gift Wrap Fundraising packet was sent home with students last Thursday. Please take the time to read through this information and help make the Gift Wrap fundraiser successful!

Included in the packet were: Dear Parent letter, Student Checklist, Prizes and Neighbor cards. Click on any of these to review or print from the PTO web site.
Great prizes will be awarded for both participation and level of sales and 50% of all sales benefit the Hillview PTO! The sales contest ends on September 29 at midnight. Parent volunteers are needed to help with hot food on hamburger day and pizza day on Thursdays. Total time is about 2 hours/8 times a year. Please contact Lindy McGrouther at mcgrouther@sbcglobal.net or 325-2057.

Earn Government Block H Points: Attend and take notes at the Site Council meeting on Thursday, September 21, 3:30-5:00 p.m. in the library. Turn in your notes to Mr. Doroquez at the end of the meeting.

Noontime Clubs begin this week. See below for the Monday/Wednesday schedule. To start a Noontime Club, find a faculty member (or parent) to sponsor the club, write up an announcement for HawkTalk, and bring it to Ms. Devoto for approval. If 10 or more people show up, the club is a "go." (Please note: This year Tuesdays are being reserved for community service clubs.)

Library News:
    Book Club: The book for the month of October is “The Water Mirror” by Kai Meyer. New members welcome!
    Race to Read: Everyone can win! Set your own goal for success. Beat the librarians for extra prizes! Sign up NOW in the library.
    Books Come Alive, Halloween 2006. Dress up like a character from a book to win a prize from the library and be eligible for the “Literary” category in the school-wide costume contest.

Requests for Block H Points: 7th and 8th graders: To receive Block H points for independent volunteer hours worked this summer or during the 3rd trimester of the 2005-06 school year, a letter from the supervising adult describing the work done and the total number of hours worked must be submitted by MONDAY, OCTOBER 2 to a Student Activities Director or the office. Any requests received after that will not be awarded points. When the 1st trimester ends, only outside volunteer work completed between the dates of August 24 and November 21 will be accepted. Contact Ms. Eisner in room D-9 with questions.

Girls Volleyball
Burgess League teams have been selected. Coaches will communicate with parents regarding practice and game schedules.

City of Menlo Park Fall Activities Guide is now available. You can also pick up a hard copy at the Burgess Recreation Center, Gymnastics Center, Onetta Harris Community Center, Library, and City Hall.

ACS (Adolescent Counseling Services) has developed an informational booklet for parents entitled "99 Tips for Talking with Teens". Parents can receive this great tool for FREE by visiting www.acs-teens.org.

Menlo-Atherton High School Outreach is collecting monetary and new and slightly used soccer equipment donations to help start a soccer league in San Miguel Allende, Mexico. Drop off donations in the Outreach office (in the Admin. building) at M-A High School or contact gnichola@seq.org or call 322-5311, ext. 5020.
